Reach to child with cutural touch points in classroom or home for teachers and parents

In school, we find engaging students for full time is difficult. Many times they loose interest and concentration. Students come to school from different cultural background. In today's time, information and communication technology tools, used by school have potential to progress. They have lot of colorful images, videos, clippings for child to interact.

Knowledge of science and hands on practice  brings confidence in students.  The implementation of knowledge is very crucial. Due to different family background and cultural belief, one level of understanding in classroom is difficult task. Many children loose interest in studies, as they do not cope up with the class.

To improve child perception and make him a global competent, is a difficult task. Information and communication tools available  today have tremendous power to gain progress with different level students. It provides 24x7, ample time to each individual, improves job opportunities and  understandings.

We find that to bridge  this cultural gap between students  and science, is necessary. How to make children influence in, science, technology , engineering and mathematics (STEM) ?  For this,  knowing student's  background is necessary. Teachers should  understand, the cultural background of children; who they are and what they believe in.

We discovered that curriculum solutions is understood well, if solved in partnership with student belief and his daily routine. This responsive approach is crucial while explaining (STEM) , - science,/technology,/engineering or mathematics, and can bring excellent results. But at this point we must be clear about conveying end results to students.

Science curriculum linked with cultural  belief , can give better knowledge to student. For this teacher has to do little home work in understanding family culture of child and link it to science.

For example when talking about lesson on 'Dental Oral Care', if explained as given in the text books, or with rules to follow, which would be boring.   To engage students more in subjects and teacher's home work on the same will help. She can  site,- practice carried out at home. She can discuss with children about toothbrush with dental paste or local 'DATUN' - a twig of neem / peeple / kikar tree- having chemicals that have antibiotics. This discussions will link children to their daily routine, give them knowledge of effectively removal plaque and dental disease.

By using this cultural touch points, in explaining Science / technology / engineering and mathematics , teachers will see multiple  benefits. Students will be more eager to learn. Teacher will  improve  relationships with students.

Culturally responsive teaching techniques are crucial if we want to make progress in reducing the  gap in syllabus- text books and  educational equity in science and math through educational tools.

Teachers As Role Models.

"Teachers at S E International School, are trained to keep their relations with students, which taste like Chocolate, and  not like Medicine"  Teachers As Role Models A role model is a person who inspires and encourages us to strive for greatness, live to our fullest potential and see the best in ourselves. A role model is someone we admire and someone we aspire to be like. We learn through them, through their commitment to excellence and through their ability to make us realize our own personal growth. We look to them for advice and guidance. A role model can be anybody: a parent, a sibling, a friend but some of our most influential and life-changing role models are  teachers . “We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build our youth for the future.” ―  Franklin D.
