Education is understanding not fear of exam

At school we prepare child to understand each word. Our teacher write new word or phrase, on Board from the lesson. Teacher do not carry text book to the class. She comes prepared with her homework. She discusses the new word / phrase, explains its synonymous,  meaning, its use in real life , gets the answer from the student. Shows PPts and small video clips . 70 % of the lesson is done. Now she asks child to open  the lesson of the text book, explains the lesson relating to the understanding / explanation shown earlier.  Each child understands the lesson, in his own words. Now he is ready to rewrite the lesson in his words. He does not have to write in word to word of text book as answer. Even when teacher asks to write 'ESSAY' on particular TOPIC ?  She first picks up common words, actions related to topic, discusses in class. Makes sure that children have understood the Topic. Then asks them to write in their own words. Majority of class are successful in their at

School that plants seed for innovations.

School can only improve if government or management embraces new ideas. Schools at large have limited resources. When resources are scarce, then problem is to solve ideas that work in the real world. Schools and educationalist worry that children do not seem to learn much. Study shows that private unaided schools out perform government or government aided schools. Task is to bring social and environmental change to world. Through research, education and experimental learning we can strengthen capacity of individuals to solve complex problems. Private unaided schools are expensive. Teachers are trained with workshops. They are constantly supervised and supported by design team experts. Curriculum is constantly upgraded and improved. Students are eager to learn and teacher are motivated to teach. While in sharp contrast: Government or government aided schools, principal and teachers patch  up sick leaves of teachers, with substitute teachers. The whole set up is to show on pa

Advantages of TAB & internet at school

Story of two students about haves ('A'),  and have not's ('B'). One with internet & TAB at school & the other with normal school with text books. 'A'  goes to school with TAB, attend  class, understand how to surf, do research for synonymous words, meaning of phrases, does algebra sums, geometry theory, attends on line sums, views on you tube similar lesson plan clips, views teacher's notes with PPts, pre loaded video clips. It is more helpful for struggling students to recover after school hours. Potential exists for increasing knowledge and information. Role of of school in child development.

Role of school is very important in building India for 2020. Learning takes place inside four walls and outside the classrooms also.  A child's thirst to new words, activities, images, are very strong.  At the same time his concentration time is very less. He gets diverted very fast. At this juncture, it is important to be with him. Every minute new product is launched. Before we understand to use  our  mobile, a new model will come in market with better applications. We are all living in a fast world. We can not stay with limited knowledge of text books. We need to prepare our self and our child to face this fast changing world. T V , mobile, computer technologies , are with child  since his birth. Child has to understand the good part of it and  move ahead for better. If these technologies are not covered in school, he will be left behind in competition of his generation. At S E International School, we take care of a child's growth. We try to make him learn words/less

Failure-A stepping stone to success

"Parents need to fill a child's bucket of self esteem so high that the rest of the world can't poke enough holes in it to drain it  dry"..... Alvin Price. All the time one can not be winner. Even loosing is not loosing if we learn a lesson from it. Famous example of series of failure is President Abraham Lincoln What is the difference between failure and mistakes. Misguided attempt, carelessness, selfishness, excessive pride lead to mistakes. Failure only makes us stronger and you come out shining. We are told ' avoid mistakes'. But as you can't make omelets without breaking eggs, mistakes are important part of life. In fact we should celebrate in school 'Failure Week', this would build resilience.  Few tips which we should encourage: Take action   Take more risks Dare to dream No success without flops Never give up Let us make better mistakes for better tomorrow. Mentally we are accustomed to focusing on error prevention,

How picnics in school teach students the art of co-operative learning

Each year school plans an event of outing for a day. This is a sweet memory of co operative learning.  Eating in group, free time , no pressure of four walls of class room.  Early morning till late in evening you stay away from your routine work, lot to see, notice different mood of the day, other community in society- people working, cheering, find responsibility in  adults to contribute and  be part of them. Students come closer to each other, friendship, exchange of personal observations, learn forming groups, sharing observations happens. SRK got nostalgic about his childhood on launch of Kidzania-Mumbai- owns share in KZ-Mumbai Our students this time are ready for a theme park adventure-picnic to Kidzania, Mumbai. They are going to  have real life experience.
